July 10,2023 Homer Township Meeting Minutes

Harlan called the meeting to order at 5:30PM.  Rita read the minutes. Pat made a motion to accept. Frank 2nd the motion. Minutes were accepted as read.

Rick Betsinger and Scott Fabian from St. Lukes Church came to ask about them being able to blacktop two of our streets, Trout St. and Mill St.  After a short discussion ,  Frank made a motion to allow St. Luke Church to Blacktop both Trout St. and Mill St. Pat 2nd.  Motion passed.

The board members all received a letter by certified mail from The Friends of the Homer Town Hall demanding that we have a vote in November 2023.

George Welshons read a letter from the friends group demanding a vote from the beginning of this issue. They want this vote to happen in November.  We are working with  MATT in order at have a vote at the annual meeting in March.  Pat will talk to MATT about a possible referendum. 

Frank made a motion that the schedule remain as is. Pat 2nd the motion carried.

Pat read a letter from Graham Berg-Moberg concerning a ballot for a remodel or a new build.

 Amy Cordry brought up the possibility of a special meeting. They would like the vote to happen in November.  It was explained that we don’t have enough information for a vote yet.

There was much discussion about renovation, maintenance and asbestos. Pat asked anyone with definite concerns about maintenance, they should bring it to the board.

PJ asked about covid funds. Kim explained that they were already received and are in our account and we do not have to amend the application until the decision is made.

John Briggs brought a model of the building with a new wing on each side. It had the charm of the schoolhouse and the additions gave more room. There were concerns about the cost.

Paul Bissen asked about the road and Pat hadn’t received a call back from the railroad.

JoAn gave a report on Heritage Day , She said that it was wonderful. People asked if it would be an annual event. She also told us that there would be a National Night Out on August1.

Pat gave a report on some costs, Asbestos-$6800. Septic-$8475. Mold remediation Minimal.

The septic bid was dropped off at the Government Center hopefully to be cost shared.

Brickl will send a bid on the new building. Fowler and Hammer will send bid on Lester building.

Morton Building not interested in a bid.

 Kim gave a report on the Storm in 2022. She submitted 61,000. In bills but has one outstanding yet and must be turned in before the paperwork is finished.

 Harlan gave a report, Pickwick roads need wok. MiEnergy will need to bury a cable under the road, 4ft deep.  The chloride will be put down after we get rain. Rock was delivered to Skip and Dana. We needed Krumrie to help with some trees. 

Michael Busch asked about drainage issues and was told that the work was already done.

Frank made a motion to adjourn, Pat 2nd. Meeting adjourned at 6:40pm
